Strategic Purpose Statement |
Under supervision students will graduate from this programme and be able to: Demonstrate an understanding of the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992. Students will have developed effective study skills, basic first aid, computing and communication skills; Identify customer requirements and install foul water systems in domestic or residential systems, using standards or codes of practice relevant to the circumstances; Identify the sources of water, methods of delivery, types of pipes, fittings and pumps, and the design principles of systems used to supply water in sufficient quantity and of adequate quality to meet the requirements of the customer and Territorial Authority; Identify and install various methods of water heating, to safely heat and store hot water, and deliver it at the appropriate temperature in accordance with legislation and customer requirements; Install and maintain sanitary appliances, fixtures and valves; Develop manufacture and fit a range of sheetmetal and roofing materials used in the Plumbing and Gasfitting Industry; Weld or braze a range of metals and plastics used in the Plumbing and Gasfitting Industry; Apply the theory and principles of fuel gas combustion to domestic installations according to best trade practice; Install and maintain a range of domestic gas appliances and devices; Integrate plumbing and gasfitting services into a building structure to customer requirements, according to plans and specifications and to meet regulations and codes of practice.
