Strategic Purpose Statement
A graduate of the Certificate in Digital Design (Graphics) will have the ability to work in the capacity of Junior Mac Operator or Production Designer in the print, graphic design and publishing fields, having developed generic design skills and discipline specific competencies as follows: Generic design skills; Access, analyse, evaluate and use new and existing visual and textual information to support effective design thinking; Demonstrate effective use of the elements and principles of visual language in graphic design communication; Think logically, critically and creatively; Work as a constructive team member, and work autonomously; Demonstrate effective skills in computer and software applications for print and other graphic media; Communicate effectively and persuasively in written and oral forms in workplace and customer communication Competencies; Apply technical skills, organisational and time-management skills, analytical and constructive cognitive skills, appreciative and judgmental cognitive skills, industry specific competencies and professional work ethics.
Entry Requirements
Applicants must meet the following entry requirements:
Present a portfolio of artwork completed within the last 18 months*.
Have English language competence to undertake this programme which is taught and assessed in English, for example, have achieved NCEA Level 2 English or equivalent.
Any applicant whose first language is not English may be required to provide evidence of an overall IELTS (Academic) band score of 5.5 (with no score below 5.0) or equivalent.

All applicants will be interviewed. In cases of oversubscription preference will be given to those who demonstrate achievement potential through their portfolio and in their discussion of their work and ideas.

Credits

The credit value relates to the size of the qualification. One credit equates to ten hours of learning. One year's full-time study at a provider is usually 120 credits, but if you are studying part-time or in the work place the credit value may vary.
