GradDipLnTchg graduates will demonstrate the skills to develop culturally sustaining, responsive, and inclusive teaching practices that honour the language, identity and culture of all learners and their whanau; design, implement, assess and evaluate transformative learning experiences; work collaboratively as professional leaders and life-long learners They will also demonstrate the knowledge and understanding of te ao Maori, te Tiriti o Waitangi; relevant curriculum and pedagogical practices; values, viewpoints and discourses using bicultural and intercultural lenses. Graduates from the programme will be qualified to register as NZ Teachers, and to become provisionally certificated. They can then apply for a position as a teacher in the educational sector appropriate to their endorsement (Early Childhood Education, Primary or Secondary school settings) and to enter an Advice and Guidance Programme that leads to full certification.

Content
The new 150 credit Graduate Diploma of Learning and Teaching consists of two 15 credit core Teaching and Learning courses (30 credits) and three endorsement alternatives: Early Childhood Education, Primary or Secondary (each 120 credits). Each endorsement is made up of; two 30 credit Professional Practice courses and two 30 credit Curriculum and Pedagogy courses. For the Secondary Specialisation students will select one of their two Curriculum and Pedagogy courses from a specific subject area.

Level

Credits

The credit value relates to the size of the qualification. One credit equates to ten hours of learning. One year's full-time study at a provider is usually 120 credits, but if you are studying part-time or in the work place the credit value may vary.
