Strategic Purpose Statement |
Graduates will build on the interdisciplinary approach to the study of sport and exercise to an advanced level. They will have advanced knowledge consequent to their major area of bachelors level study. They will show in-depth knowledge of varying points of view and research traditions in the field and can capably interrogate existing assumptions and practices from more than one academic standpoint. They will have a sophisticated grasp of the key underlying principles of the facets of sport and exercise and be able to implement and adapt these principles within a complex and rapidly-changing professional environment. They will be competent independent researchers who have demonstrated the ability to critically evaluate and employ research methodologies to an internationally recognised level. They will be creative in their approach to research design, discovery and problem-solving, with a developed ethos of cross-disciplinary and inter-sectoral collaboration as it applies within the sport and exercise field.

Entry Requirements |
Admission to the 240 credits programme is open to students who have completed a Bachelor of Sport and Exercise or equivalent sport-related degree with at least an overall B grade average. Admission to the 120 credits programme by thesis is open to students who have completed a Bachelor of Sport and Exercise degree with Honours or an equivalent sport-related degree, or who have completed the Postgraduate Diploma in Sport and Exercise; with at least an overall B grade average.

Content |
Students will extend their knowledge in one specific area of interest, along with a research methods paper and a research report in their primary area of study. A primary subject area of study can be selected from one of these major areas - Management and Coaching, Physical Education, or Exercise Prescription and Training (with the addition of Exercise Science). A practicum, focussing on their primary subject area is a common feature throughout. The thesis component is the supervised undertaking of an original piece of independent research.
