Entry Requirements
Academic:

Applicants under 20 years of age:
- 48 credits NCEA level 2 across 4 subjects or
- Equivalent

Applicants 20 years and over:
- No formal qualifications needed

English Language Requirements:

All applicants must have a level of English sufficient to be able to study at this level. Those students whose first language is not English will have:
- An International English Language Testing System (IELTS) overall Academic score of 6 or
- An equivalent qualification

Other:

All applicants must sign a Risk Management Contract, relating to risk and their health, prior to commencing study on the programme.

Applicants must also complete an NMIT Application/Enrolment form and submit the following documents:

· A signed declaration regarding convictions against the law

· A signed consent form to allow for a Ministry of Justice Criminal Conviction check

Applicants are required to sign a declaration as to whether they have any convictions against the law (apart from minor traffic convictions). Upon acceptance to the programme students are required to sign a consent form to allow NMIT to apply for a Ministry of Justice Criminal Conviction check. This procedure will be repeated at the beginning of each year of study. Having a criminal record is not automatic grounds for declining enrolment. Consideration is given to currency, nature, severity of conviction(s) and associated factors.

An application for enrolment may be declined, or a student's right to progress on the grounds of criminal convictions(s), under the advisement of the Programme Area Leader for Hospitality and Wellbeing. Students, who wish to appeal this decision, may apply in writing to the Academic Committee.

All records obtained will be kept as private and confidential. As part of the programme, students are required to work closely with secondary school students. Where an NMIT student has a history of criminal conviction(s) or incurs a conviction whilst enrolled (see below), this record will be made available to the relevant secondary school, with student consultation, to ensure secondary school agreement prior to students working within the school.

Criminal Charges

Once enrolled, students are required to inform the Programme Area Leader of any criminal charges that may be laid during the year.

All applicants are encouraged to either request an interview or provide referee reports in order to ascertain their suitability for the programme. Qualities considered important for success on the programme are listed below.

- A commitment to study

- Average level of fitness

- Key beliefs in the benefits of exercise

- An ability to communicate

- Willingness to work in a group

All applicants who fulfil the entry requirements will be accepted onto the programme up until a maximum number is reached. However in cases where there are more successful applicants than places on the programme, applicants will be waitlisted in the order of which their applications were received. Waitlisted applicants may gain entry onto the programme if another place becomes available.
