Possession of a criminal record is not automatic grounds for declining enrolment. Consideration is given to currency, nature, severity of conviction(s) and associated factors.

The Head of Nursing , in consultation with the Programme Area Leader may decline an application for enrolment, or a student's right to progress on the grounds of criminal conviction(s). Students, who wish to appeal this decision, may apply in writing to the Academic Committee.

All records obtained will be kept as private and confidential. Where a student has a history of criminal conviction(s) or incurs a conviction while enrolled (see below), this record will be made available to practice placement agencies, with student consultation, to ensure informed agency agreement to student placement.

Once enrolled, students are required to inform the Programme Area Leader of any criminal charges that may be laid during the year.
