Strategic Purpose Statement
Graduates of the NMIT Certificate in Tourism and Travel will have gained the skills, experiences and knowledge of all sectors of the industry, which will enable them to be employed in front line service positions in various sectors of the tourism and travel industries. The programme also includes elective strands which will have prepared graduates with further knowledge of specialised sectors (Tourism, Travel, Manaaki Tapoi, or Flight Attendant) of the industry. Graduates of the Tourism strand will have the knowledge and skills to be able to be employed in front line roles in various sectors of the tourism industry. Graduates of the Travel strand will have the skills and knowledge to be employed in retail travel. This may include job roles such as a travel consultant, I-site front line consultant, rental car agent, or airport customer service agents. Graduates of the Manaaki Tapoi strand will be prepared for roles relating to Mâori cultural tourism and the effective delivery of Mâori tourism experiences. This may involve working with existing tourism operators in developing Mâori interpretation of existing products or assisting with the development and delivery of new Mâori cultural tourism experiences. Graduates of the Flight Attendant strand of the programme will be able to take up a position as a Flight Attendant with an airline company or work in a customer service role for an airline.
Entry Requirements
Minimum 12 credits NCEA L2 in English, Maths & Science, or equivalent. Relevant work experience considered if aged 20 years or over. Minimum entry age 17 years. Police clearance, fitness, interview. Minimum restricted drivers licence. If English is a 2nd language, IELTS 6 (each band min. 5.5) or equivalent required.

Credits

The credit value relates to the size of the qualification. One credit equates to ten hours of learning. One year's full-time study at a provider is usually 120 credits, but if you are studying part-time or in the work place the credit value may vary.
