Strategic Purpose Statement |
The aim of the Postgraduate Certificate in Occupational Therapy Practice is to produce occupational therapists with highly developed professional reasoning skills who can lead advancements in occupational therapy practice within their team and/or profession. They will be able to critically analyse advanced theoretical and /or specialised knowledge in relation to occupational therapy practice. Utilising current research, they will be expert in the application of evidence informed- practice and contribute to improved outcomes for the people they work with.

Entry Requirements |
Occupational therapists entering this programme must hold a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy degree or equivalent. Applicants holding an equivalent qualification must be from a World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT) approved programme.
International applicants for whom English is not a first language are required to have an IELTS overall band score (Academic) of 6.5 with a minimum score of 6.5 in each band. These IELTS scores align with what is required in to apply for registration as an occupational therapist in Aotearoa New Zealand. Applicants who do not meet all the academic requirements for entry into the programme can make an application to the Head of School, who will consider the application on a case-by-case basis. Entry to the programme will be at the Head of School's discretion. Selection Criteria* Ākonga who meet the entry criteria will be accepted on a first come, first served basis until all places are full. After the programme is full, applicants who meet the entry criteria will then be placed on a waiting list and informed if a place becomes available. |

The Postgraduate Certificate in Occupational Therapy Practice is a 60 credit qualification. Ākonga Students choose two courses from the level 8 schedule. There are no compulsory courses, or prerequisites; ākonga select courses they wish to enrol in from the courses being offered that year. They are strongly advised if they are considering progressing to the Master of Occupational Therapy qualification to complete the PC435001 Research for Practice course as this is a pre-requisite to the Master's programme. Some courses may have specific requirements related to practice expertise; these are identified on the course summary, and ākonga will be advised at the time of enrolment.
