Graduates from this programme will have the skills and abilities to gain employment in the health and fitness industry in the areas of gym instructing, personal training, team fitness training and other areas of exercise prescription They will have acquired the skills, knowledge and attitudes to: Understand and apply injury management and prevention principles. Apply knowledge of customer service working in the health and fitness industry. Interpret concepts from a range of sport and related science disciplines (eg anatomy physiology, psychology and nutrition) and incorporate them into client management strategies. Organise adventure-based personal training activities into individual programmes for the benefit of the client. Practise risk management and leadership principles. Apply massage techniques and understand the use and benefits of massage. Apply commonly used training software in a personal training context. Monitoring and measure performance to assist in the writing of individual training programmes. Demonstrate and apply knowledge of small business management practice in a Personal Training setting. Manage client information Work cooperatively within a team or group Interpret the principles and methods of exercise training, in designing programmes to enhance their clients and their own health and fitness goals. Demonstrate exercise techniques and assist clients and client groups in a fitness activity. Analyse standard exercises and adapt them for specified purposes.

Four years secondary education or equivalent work and/or life experience.
