Strategic Purpose Statement
The aim of the Diploma in Applied Sport and Exercise Leadership is to provide students with a generic theoretical underpinning of sport and Exercise Leadership with the opportunity to specialise in one of three areas through practical application. Students decide which specialty to undertake which further enhances their learning in one of three ways
* Personal Training and Exercise Prescription
* Sporting Performance
* Sport Management and Coaching
Students will receive education and specialist training to further their sporting careers, enhance their level of performance, work in the delivery of sport with little or no direct supervision and with responsibility for maintaining individual quality standards at the same time as gaining recognised vocational qualifications that enhance their employment opportunities in their chosen sports and exercise field.
Graduate profile
Graduates in this programme will demonstrate a range of outcomes relevant to their area of specialty.
They will demonstrate sound knowledge of structural anatomy, physiology, nutrition and sports psychology and their application in a sport and exercise setting. They will have an understanding of the theory and practice of sports coaching and/or management, demonstrate knowledge of exercise prescription and have a basic understanding of risk management and leadership in a safe and positive environment.
They will be able to apply the principles and methods of exercise training to design programmes that will enhance the achievement of the health and fitness goals for themselves and others, and have the ability to participate and practice at the highest level possible under the supervision of elite coaches.
They will have sound knowledge in a range of sport and recreation based topics, have demonstrated a commitment to attend, participate and monitor physical training based sessions (both theoretical and practical) and have gained a good working knowledge of commonly available computer software packages and their utilisation in the learning and working environment.

Entry Requirements
Minimum of 60 NCEA credits at level 2 or above, or equivalent work and/or life experience.
English requirements for International students and students with non-English speaking backgrounds.

Credits
