Content
The Graduate Diploma of Teaching (Early Childhood Education) has been developed in recognition of the New Zealand Teachers Council; Graduating Teacher Standards.
The programme consists of four key strands of learning and field practice: Professional Studies; Curriculum and Teaching Studies; Development and Learning Studies; and Family and Community Studies. The programme emphasises the skills required to be successful in an academic learning environment such as study skills, language and writing skills and research skills.
Each of the four core strands includes essential knowledge, skills and dispositions covered in the programme to culminate in a well prepared early childhood professional. The programme's core strands also show direct linkage to the four principles of the New Zealand early childhood curriculum document, Te Whariki, and to the four key elements of the New Zealand Teachers Council Satisfactory Teacher Dimensions.
