Strategic Purpose Statement
On completion of this qualification, graduates will be skilled in the delivery of coaching and injury prevention up to high school or sports club level, with experience and instruction in the coaching of sports in an international setting. Graduates will have undertaken enhanced training opportunities and gained competencies in sports in which another country has expertise, enhanced their personal sports performance levels and be able to enter the workforce in coaching positions or to stair-case into further study in sports, recreation or physical performance. Students in the Japanese cohort will also have a supplementary diploma-level course in coaching and injury prevention to enhance their bachelor?s degree.
Entry Requirements
The entry requirement for admission to IPC is a minimum of 42 credits at NCEA Level 3 (or higher) on the National Qualifications Framework, including a minimum of 14 credits at level 3 (or higher) in each of two subjects from an approved subject list; with a further 14 credits at level 3 (or higher) taken from no more than two additional domains or approved subjects; a minimum of 14 credits at Level 1 or higher in Mathematics on the NQF; a minimum of 8 credits at Level 2 or higher in English, 4 credits of which must be in Reading and 4 credits must be in Writing. The literacy credits will be selected from a schedule of approved achievement standards and unit standards. Entry to the Diploma of International Sport Studies additionally requires attainment of Level 2 NCEA in either biology or physical education, or equivalent secondary achievement, and demonstrated competency in one or more sports.
International students must have completed a minimum of twelve years of primary and secondary education including English and attained academic ability sufficient to gain entrance to a recognised University. Competency in English could be demonstrated alternatively by an achievement of IELTS 5.5 minimum. Entry to the Diploma of International Sport Studies additionally requires secondary level or equivalent achievement in either biology or physical education, and demonstrated competency in one or more sports.
