Strategic Purpose Statement
The main objective for this qualification is to cognise graduates who are fully prepared to gain employment in the rapidly changing world of radio and multimedia broadcasting and publishing.
Graduate profile
Graduates will be able to:
- demonstrate knowledge of new media and social media developments in broadcasting
- use various forms of new media as broadcasting tools
- operate a radio production facility
- demonstrate knowledge of media law and ethics
- perform live radio presentations
- report radio and video news
- write radio news scripts
- take news media still images
- shoot video stories
- process and edit audio, still image and video material for news story packages for radio and the internet
- record and read radio news and advertising scripts
- perform live radio crosses
- present to camera for video
- programme and manage a simulated radio music station
- plan, present and manage solo and tandem live radio broadcasts
- write and produce radio commercials and advertising promotion
- plan, gather material for and produce long-form radio documentaries
- plan, gather material for and produce podcasts for the internet
- plan, gather material for and produce video feature items for posting on the internet

Entry Requirements
NCEA Level 2 or equivalent with minimum 8 credits in English/Literacy with at least 4 credits in Reading and 4 credits in Writing, plus evidence of writing ability based on interview, voice test and writing test (International: IELTS 6.5 in all bands)

Credits

The credit value relates to the size of the qualification. One credit equates to ten hours of learning. One year's full-time study at a provider is usually 120 credits, but if you are studying part-time or in the work place the credit value may vary.
