- The graduate of this qualification will be able to: - Articulate the origins of Whare Tapere through kōrero tuku iho and the role of Whare Tapere activities for collective enjoyment and entertainment. - Study and analyse oral literature art forms and associated language in Whare Tapere to inform performance, artistic interpretation and a basic composition practice. - Express rangatiratanga and ūkaipōtanga through the exploration of tikanga ā-iwi within composition, performance and practices associated with Whare Tapere. - Articulate, apply and demonstrate various techniques and skills of the art forms within Whare Tapere to convey artistic expression. - Express ūkaipōtanga through the knowledge of marae, whakapapa, te reo, iwi history and through relationships with kaumātua
Education pathways
This Heke (diploma) is the first year of the three-year Poutuarongo Whare Tapere, an undergraduate degree that introduces students to the expression of Māori concepts, behaviour and values through composition and performance.
