Strategic Purpose Statement
The aim of the programme is to produce graduates with the foundation knowledge and attitudes needed to access and impart knowledge, as drawn from the study of iwi and hapu values, knowledge and institutions, in a way that is consistent with the notion of a curriculum that is derived from a Maori world view and its application in the bilingual educational context. It also aims to develop in the student the proficiency to successfully plan, teach, manage and assess the delivery of curriculum under broad guidance in the primary school sector.
Graduate profile
Graduates will be prepared to teach in bilingual and mainstream environments; they will have a working knowledge of tikanga Maori and be equipped to teach a range of subjects within a bicultural environment

Entry Requirements
Applicants must be at least 17 years old and consent to police disclosure of applicants (if any) police records and independent referees' reports on their character. They must also have a demonstrated interest in the topic and strong desire to be bilingual as well as evidence of support from a hapu or iwi.

Content
The course includes te reo, iwi and hapuu, and Te Rangakura studies including The Theory of Te Rangakura, Te Aho Tapu, Whakatinanatanga, Curriculum studies, Professional studies and Field based Teaching Application. It also includes advanced techniques in effective planning and execution of studies as well as seminars that focus on the nature of research and alternative methodologies for the creation of new knowledge.
