Strategic Purpose Statement
During the programme, students will engage in animation, graphic and computer gaming. They are introduced to the basics of 2D and 3D modelling and animation and the history of purakau and korero tuku iho. Students will develop skills and implement techniques in character animation, rendering and dynamics for the creation of 30 second show reels. Students will develop scripting and story boarding skills to a professional standard. They will utilize high end post production techniques in the creation and finalisation of purakau and korero tuku iho. Students will understand the computer gaining industry and the impact that current technologies ie 3D modelling and animation, have had on its development. They will create a single level computer game using 3D modelling and animation, illustrate the advancements and future trends in the computer gaming industry and its impact on the maintenance and dissemination of korero tuku iho and purakau; illustrate how Maori can innovate in the computer gaming industry and explore future trends and the direction Maori may take.

Entry Requirements
The Kaihautu and/or senior tutor will interview all interested enrolees before the completion of the enrolment process.

Students must have the support from their whanau, hapu and/or iwi during the course of their studies to enable them to complete their studies successfully.

Enrolees into the Poutuarongo Hiko Rau programme will;

Have graduated from the Heke Hiko Rau or Heke Matauranga Hiko Rau 2005-7 programme. There is a transition plan in place for those students who have graduated from the Heke Matauranga Hiko Rau 2005 - 2007 programme and wish to enrol into Year Two, they will be interviewed by the Kaihautu and/or senior tutor to assess;

The additional studies completed since graduation
The additional work completed since graduation and,
Prescribe an option.

Those graduates who have not undertaken any other studies or work since graduating will be required to undertake and complete the added 2 x 5 day noho and the associated 3 weeks of self directed learning to be eligible for entry to Year Two studies.

Be, at the discretion of the Kaihautu, a graduate of a similar programme from another tertiary organisation providing they can demonstrate their active participation in the affairs of their marae and iwi/hapu.
