Strategic Purpose Statement |
Graduates will have broad skills in critical analysis and communication, be able to work autonomously or in teams, and have a sophisticated understanding of the relevant disciplines. They will be able to apply their knowledge of the processes and activities involved with drug discovery, design and development in the pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, agrichemical, bioanalytical, chemical and related industries. Graduates will be equipped to conduct independent literature studies and perform experimental laboratory-based research, and to assess the strength, validity and completeness of experimental data. They will be able to compile findings into written and oral reports. Some graduates may be able to continue to doctoral study. Graduates will have enhanced their skills relevant to, and will be well qualified to work in, the pharmaceutical, agrichemical, biotechnology and neutraceutical sectors.

A bachelors degree from a tertiary institution in a relevant subject, with a B+ average grade in relevant courses.

Content |
A compulsory, introductory course in chemical biology and drug discovery, followed by a course in organic and bio-organic chemistry or drug design and a research preparation course. Candidates continue with courses that can lead to specialisations in drug design, drug discovery or chemical biology and complete their qualification with either an applied research project or a thesis.
Evaluation: A combination of examinations, reports, assignments, written research proposals and oral presentations. |
