Strategic Purpose Statement |
Graduates with a Bachelor of Global Studies from Te Herenga Waka-Victoria University of Wellington will be interculturally confident, civic-minded global citizens, grounded in a strong awareness of Aotearoa's place in the world and the significance of te ao Maori as well as increasing ethnic diversity in our society. They will be able to combine language skills and intercultural knowledge, an awareness of Indigenous and other perspectives on global challenges, and an interdisciplinary approach to analysis and problem-solving. They will be equipped to define and describe models of leadership and social change; identify and analyse key global challenges and ethical issues; create and communicate innovative approaches to such challenges in a range of settings; and compare a range of solutions to them in diverse cultural, linguistic, geographical and historical contexts.

All students will take four core courses, a skills/concepts course and a Maori Studies course and fulfil a 60-point language requirement. In addition, they will be required to complete at least two minors, focused on key themes in Global Studies. They will also have the opportunity to complete an additional minor from any cognate area (including their chosen language), or another subject if they prefer. Alternatively, they will be able to choose up to 60 points of elective courses, which may be taken from inside or outside the BGS schedule. The minor subject areas for the degree are the following: Area and Cultural Studies; Environment and Sustainability; Cultures and Identities; Ethical Leadership and Intercultural Communication; Global Health and Wellbeing; Globalization, Movement and Change; Human Rights, Justice and Peace; World Affairs and Organizations.

All students will take four core courses, a skills/concepts course and a Maori Studies course and fulfil a 60-point language requirement. In addition, they will be required to complete at least two minors, focused on key themes in Global Studies. They will also have the opportunity to complete an additional minor from any cognate area (including their chosen language), or another subject if they prefer.
