Strategic Purpose Statement |
On successful completion of this programme graduates will have gained the Tai Poutini Certificate in Automotive Trades Including National Certificate in Motor Industry (Entry to Automotive Trades). This will enable Graduates to perform task on their own and under supervision that may include but is not limited to the following: A capacity to perform workshop duties in Battery Servicing and repair along with an understanding in Charging and Starting system operations. Knowledge in Brakes, Steering, Suspension, Transmission and Clutch operations in passenger and light commercial vehicles. The skill to service and repair faults in passenger and light commercial vehicles Cooling systems. Will be able to remove and replace Tyres and Wheels and perform Balancing needs. Have knowledge in Petrol and Diesel fuel systems being able to Tune Petrol engines and perform minor servicing tasks on Diesel engines. Be able to carry out general Engineering tasks, Modifying and Repairing Components using correct Hand and Power tools along with Oxy-acetylene gas welding equipment and understand the structure and areas of the Automotive Industry with Apprenticeship and Employment contract requirements. Graduates will be in a position to obtain a Traineeship in Industry specialising in that field of employment.

Applicants will have successfully completed NCEA Level One (or equivalent). Selection Criteria apply. Special Entry may be granted where evidence exists that the applicant can successfully complete the programme. Please contact the institution for details
