Strategic Purpose Statement
Graduates will develop theoretical teaching knowledge and practical skills for working with non English Speaking Background Students. Graduates will gain a specialist qualification for teaching English language in New Zealand and overseas. Graduates may also exit with a Graduate Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages award after completing the required modules within the programme.
Graduate profile
The Grad Cert TESOL and Grad Dip TESOL programmes are suitable for trained teachers as well as those with little or no teaching experience, including university graduates and others who are interested in working in this field.

If you are currently teaching in primary, secondary and tertiary education you will be able to apply and integrate specialist knowledge and practical skills relating to teaching English to speakers of other languages to the students you teach.

Entry Requirements
Completion of a professional teaching qualification at degree level, or equivalent work experience of teaching English to speakers of other languages in a formal or informal context.

Credits

The credit value relates to the size of the qualification. One credit equates to ten hours of learning. One year's full-time study at a provider is usually 120 credits, but if you are studying part-time or in the work place the credit value may vary.
