Strategic Purpose Statement |
Graduates will have developed knowledge and skills to operate in and on behalf of a veterinary practice; animal moving, handling and restraint; administration of appropriate large animal procedures and treatments; animal welfare, health and husbandry factors. Knowledge, skills and attitudes to be professional and effective in the workplace, including: safe work practice, ethical and legal considerations, dealing with emergencies, communicating effectively, and the use of business systems. Graduates will have developed knowledge and skills required to operate as a technician in large animal practice such as a veterinary practice in a rural community. Skills that support employment and advancement in allied sectors dealing with animal research, artificial breeding services, and TB testing. Enhanced career opportunities that may lead to more senior and specialist roles in a large animal practice and self employment. Graduate may choose to pursue entry to high tertiary learning in the animal science field.

Entry Requirements |
24 credits NCEA Level 1, 12 must be in English & 12 credits must be in one subject area, or equivalent or a qual at Level 2 or higher in a related subject area. A current workplace first aid qual or current First Aid Cert with U/S 6400, 6401 & 6402.
