Strategic Purpose Statement |
Graduates will have acquired specialised knowledge and skills in theoretical understanding and technical skills in the practice of interior design, interior design techniques, colour theory, computer aided drafting/design (CAD), Advanced 3D processes, computer graphics, illustration and photo manipulation computer software programmes; freehand sketching, construction and building technology, interpersonal communication attributes, and professional practice for both residential and commercial interiors and fit-outs. Basic legal and building industry issues affecting design; an understanding of the social, economic, cultural and political environments in which interior design activities are undertaken; ability to anticipate and respond to emerging changes in interior design and the expectations of professional practice. Graduates will have the ability to think critically and apply their acquired skills and knowledge to professional practice to take up employment opportunities in interior design firms, architectural firms as an in-house interior design specialist, in construction firms in their design offices or dealing directly with clients, in property development, kitchen and bathroom design or self-employment as an interior designer. Graduates may apply for entry into further tertiary education programmes such as a degree or post graduate diploma programmes in architecture, environmental design and project management

Entry Requirements |
14 crs NCEA L3 in each of 3 subjects or 48 crs NCEA L2 across 4 subjects (incl English and/or maths, practical arts, Technology or Design) or equiv or Certificate in Media Arts graduate. Internationals IELTS 6.0 academic with 5.5 written band or equivlent.
