Strategic Purpose Statement |
Graduates will have developed and consolidated strategies and skills required for academic English in further study; demonstrate awareness of conventions and types of academic texts and apply these to the production of academic texts of report and essay writing with APA; extensive and intensive listening skills in genre related to academic study and the wider community; use e-learning strategies effectively; use all types of study skills of independent learning, note-taking from reading and listening, test taking, sitting exams and have increased general and academic vocabulary; understand and think critically about the difference between opinion and fact; language skills to communicate effectively, appropriately and confidently in a range of situations; linguistic skills, cultural and academic knowledge for employment or further tertiary level study at diploma or degree level; experience in formal presentations; ability to analyse and think critically; confidence in general language and study skills associated with research at an introductory level. Graduates can progress to higher tertiary study and may pathway into a wide range of Wintec Diplomas and/or Degrees. Graduates English language skills will be approximately IELTS 6.0 level and they will be prepared for roles in the workplace that require a reasonable level of English competence in speaking, listening, reading and writing for communicability in the community and the workplace.

The credit value relates to the size of the qualification. One credit equates to ten hours of learning. One year's full-time study at a provider is usually 120 credits, but if you are studying part-time or in the work place the credit value may vary.
