Graduates will have developed upper intermediate level communication skills in the four areas of reading, writing, speaking and listening and study skills. Graduates will be able to demonstrate pronunciation of some sounds and works accurately using appropriate stress, rhythm and intonation for meaning and clear communication in connected speech and discourse; seek information and clarification expressions and vocabulary in a wide range of situations; initiate, sustain and participate effectively in formal and informal conversations and discussions of general interest; plan and present cohesive short presentations on familiar topics using information from the internet and/or other outside sources; understand informal and factual oral/written texts and summarise information extract main and supporting ideas; inter meaning and draw conclusions from oral and written texts using contextual clues; interpret oral/written texts and present information in different formats such as charts, diagrams, notes, graphs and tables; plan, organise and present information and ideas effectively in a range of text types (narratives, reports, argumentative, expository) using appropriate text organisation, sentence structure and cohesive devices; demonstrate self-autonomous and reflective learning strategies. Graduates have General English skills, learning strategies and study skills that will equip them to be successful in further Academic English language study at a more advanced level. They may pathway to Wintecs Certificate and/or Diploma in English as an Additional Language (Level 5) or other tertiary qualifications.
