Strategic Purpose Statement |
Graduates will have gained strategies and skills to make the transition from general to academic English; independent and confident language learners, able to manage their own learning; ability and confidence in skills essential for successful study in tertiary courses; ability to think critically and understand the difference between opinion and fact; study skills in note-taking from reading and listening, test taking, sitting exams and increased general and academic vocabulary; contribute confidently in small group discussions; present information using visual media e.g. PowerPoint; read academic texts; skim read for detail, analyse graphs; write summaries, introductions, body paragraphs and conclusions; write reports and essays describing and evaluating information; use APA referencing. Graduates of the Certificate in English as an Additional Language (Level 5) may pathway into the Diploma in in English as an Additional Language (Level 5) and/or a wide range of Wintec Certificate programmes.

Entry Requirements |
Open Entry. Internationals IELTS 5.0 in all bands. Selection criteria: interview & test to establish English Lang skill level, demonstrate likelihood of success. Internationals must have Immigration Service of NZ doc verifying study eligibility for NZ.

The credit value relates to the size of the qualification. One credit equates to ten hours of learning. One year's full-time study at a provider is usually 120 credits, but if you are studying part-time or in the work place the credit value may vary.
