Strategic Purpose Statement |
On successful completion of this programme graduates will have:
-The theoretical linguistic knowledge base on which to develop and design lessons and courses specific to the language development of their students -An understanding of socio-linguistic factors in language development -The ability to apply theory to their teaching practice -The skill base to undertake assessment -The ability to deliver courses and lessons to ensure their students make rapid progress in their language acquisition -An understanding of the value of feedback and formative and summative assessment -A working knowledge of the technical resources available to language teachers |

Work/Life Experience/Skills
Evidence of work/life/study experience to enable applicants to complete the programme successfully. This could include: - Ongoing involvement with other cultures - Experience in learning an additional language - Experience in teaching (e.g. teachers aide) AND ii.English Applicants must have: -English language competence to undertake this programme which is taught and assessed in English -Language analysis skills of a level suitable for classroom teaching of ESOL. (assessed through the interview and grammar test) -Communicative fluency to deliver language programmes successfully (assessed through the interview and grammar test) OR Provide evidence of 6.5 IELTS, 650 TOEFL / 6.5 ELP across the four bands listening, speaking, reading and writing. iii. Interview Students gain entry onto the programme on the basis of information provided in their application form, an interview and grammar test (the grammar test is required if IELTS results are not available). All applicants will be required to attend the interview. (Refer to Appendix 7 for the Interview Schedule). -The applicants will be advised in advance of the date, time, place, requirements, and persons involved (including any support persons they may wish to accompany them). -The purpose of an interview is to: Assess language skills Ensure communicative fluency Inform the candidates about the programme Gather information from the candidate NOTE: Candidates will be made aware that some types of criminal conviction may limit their ability to secure practicum and work experience placements, and thus to complete the programme requirements, and/or may prevent them from gaining employment in schools. If the Interviewer determines that the programme is not appropriate, the applicant will be offered access to academic and career advice to ensure that the applicant is aware of other programmes which are better suited to their abilities, interests and needs. |
