Statement

Tēnā koutou. Ko te kaupapa o taku mahi, ko “Te Mana Wāhine Tūturu”. My inspiration for this taonga is based on Mana Wāhine. I’ve chosen this topic as I have a close connection to our Maniapoto Mau Rākau Rōpū. In our local pūrākau, our wāhine upheld our pā when the men went to war. They were the knowledge keepers and this is why I am passionate about this mahi and show this through my art and design. I’ve used the tewhatewha in this image as it represents the chiefly weapon of great mana and status for a leader. The three wāhine are symbolic of my female whakapapa. I created this image on an iPad which I found helped when editing and colouring my work.
