People credited with this unit standard are able to: - inspect scaffolding to determine its readiness to erect the next lift; - plan safe method for erection of lift above; - use a safety harness for the erection of scaffolding; - prepare components on a lower lift for passing to the lift above; - safely access the lift above; - use proprietary advance guardrails for erecting scaffolding; - install guardrails progressively from working platform lift below finished working platform; and - install edge protection using tunnelling or scaffold safe zone.

This unit standard is intended primarily for non-professional scaffolders to assure the safe use of suspended scaffolding from which they normally work. It does not replace the legal requirement for inspections to be completed by a certificated scaffolder where necessary. People credited with this unit standard are able to: conduct visual and physical inspections of suspended scaffolding before use, and respond to the findings of a suspended scaffold inspection.
