People credited with this unit standard are able to:
- assess the situation involving retrieval by rope, and deploy appropriate equipment;
- prepare patient for descent;
- descend with patient and then apply appropriate first aid and basic life support;
- set up and use hauling systems for retrieval purposes; and;
- demonstrate lead climbing and aid traversing retrieval techniques.
