People credited with this unit standard are able to describe: the purpose of equipment and machinery, and the precautions to be taken on a commercial fishing vessel; the duties of a deckhand when a commercial fishing vessel is being prepared for sea, and for heavy weather; and the precautions a deckhand must take to ensure personal safety while on board.
