People credited with this unit standard are able to: identify potential hazards involving horses and implement measures to ensure safety of horses and people in and around the horse facility; demonstrate knowledge of the actions to take in the event of an emergency involving horses; provide assistance to the veterinarian while veterinary treatment is being carried out; describe and monitor health status of horses in training; and provide ongoing care for a horse following sickness or injury.
