Chemistry - annotated exemplars
Show: Chemistry homepage
An annotated exemplar is an extract of student evidence, with a commentary, to explain key aspects of the standard. It assists teachers to make assessment judgements at the grade boundaries.
Level 1
- AS90930 - Carry out a practical chemistry investigation, with direction (1.1)
- AS90931 - Demonstrate understanding of the chemistry in a technological application (1.2)
Level 2
- AS91161 - Carry out quantitative analysis (2.1)
- AS91162 - Carry out procedures to identify ions present in solution (2.2)
- AS91163 - Demonstrate understanding of the chemistry used in the development of a current technology (2.3)
- AS91167 - Demonstrate understanding of oxidation-reduction (2.7)
Level 3
- AS91387 - Carry out an investigation in chemistry involving quantitative analysis (3.1)
- AS91388 - Demonstrate understanding of spectroscopic data in chemistry (3.2)
- AS91389 - Demonstrate understanding of chemical processes in the world around us (3.3)
- AS91393 - Demonstrate understanding of oxidation-reduction processes (3.7)
Trial Exemplars
To further support teachers in identifying the critical aspects of Excellence, NZQA is trialling the publication of an additional exemplar for each Level 3 internal standard for Accounting, Biology and Chemistry. The additional exemplar focuses on the requirements for a secure Excellence, while also identifying why the High Merit exemplar does not meet Excellence.
