NCEA and the Whānau

NCEA and the whanau logogreen2019NCEA and the Whānau is a programme of free workshops that have been designed to help whānau better understand NCEA.

When parents and whānau understand NCEA and are engaged in their child’s learning journeys, young people are more likely to succeed.

What will I learn in the workshop?

The workshops will cover basic NCEA information and answer some frequently asked questions you might have, such as:

  • How many credits are required for NCEA and what subjects can they come from?

  • How will my child’s subject choices affect their future options?

  • How can my child qualify for University Entrance in their chosen career option?

You will also have a chance to develop an Action Plan that will help guide you and your child through the NCEA journey.

Attending a workshop:

NCEA and the Whānau workshops can be hosted by your school, local church, community or education organisation. These organisations are required to meet a simple set of criteria first, this usually focussed on the number of attendees. To find out when a workshop will be happening near you, or to learn ore about the criteria for hosting a workshop please email NCEA and the Whānau for more information.
