NCEA ma le Pasifika Workshops

NCEA stands for the National Certificate of Educational Achievement.  It is the main qualification for New Zealand secondary school learners and is a very important qualification in any learning journey.

To help Pasifika families to better understand NCEA, we have designed NCEA ma le Pasifika workshops. This is a programme of free workshops designed specifically for Pasifika parents and their families. When parents and family are engaged in their children's learning journey, they are more likely to succeed in school.

Here is what Pasifika parents have said after attending a workshop:

“Fantastic overview of NCEA – especially informing us parents about what and how we can help our child to succeed at school”

“Very informative and motivational. Good info on how to support our children”

“I come with very little knowledge about NCEA and am now leaving with very useful information about NCEA”

“Awesome presentation, so helpful and informative.  I will be promoting this to as many other Pacific (and all other) parents”

What will you learn at the workshop?

At the workshop you will receive quality information, ideas and tips to help you understand NCEA, so that you can discuss it with your child.

The workshops will also help you to guide your child in choosing subjects, understanding the types of assessments, gaining credits, achieving high grades and making good career choices.  This information will also be helpful to you when you discuss your child’s progress and achievement with teachers at their school.

These workshops are part of the Government initiative to raise student achievement, at all levels, for all students, especially Pasifika.

These workshops are led by NZQA, and supported by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Pacific Island Affairs and Careers NZ.

How can I attend a workshop?

To arrange a workshop in your area please first contact your secondary school Pasifika Advisor as there may be a workshop already planned in your area.

If you would like to arrange your own workshop for your church, community or school parents group, please contact Pasifika@nzqa.govt.nz.

We will organise and bring along resources, so all you need to do is come along, and invite other Pasifika parents and learners to come along too.
