Strategic Purpose Statement
This qualification is designed for all industries and has a flexible structure to meet different needs. It is intended that safety supervisors, co-ordinators or team leaders will be the main candidates for the qualification. The content assumes the candidate is a holder of the National Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (Workplace Safety) (Level 3) [Ref: 0801] or has equivalent experience, and as such has a good grounding in safety specific practices within industry. The Compulsory and Elective A sections of the qualification focus on the practical management of occupational safety and health in the workplace, while the Elective B section allows candidates to select skills and knowledge relevant to their sector of industry.
Graduate profile
After successful completion of the National Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (Coordination) (Level 4) graduates will have the skills, knowledge and attributes to be able to Implement a hazard management system, methods for controlling plant and machinery hazards and a health and safety plan for a workplace. Plan and conduct an occupational health and safety management systems audit for a business operation. Perform health and safety roles and manage requirements for contractors to perform work on a site. Investigate and document workplace incidents, accidents and injuries Implement and facilitate claims lodgement, interventions, injury management and rehabilitation processes within the workplace.

Entry Requirements
For health and safety purposes, where a candidate has specific medical needs or a medical condition, a medical certificate from the candidates doctor may be required. Entry to the National Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (Coordination) (Level 4) programme will be in accordance with the criteria specified in the Waiariki Regulatory Framework (Academic Regulations). Candidates are also required to hold the National Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (Workplace Safety) (Level 3) Ref 0801 or an equivalent qualification as approved by the Programme Area Lead for Forest and Resource Management. Alternatively applicant must be able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge and skills in health and safety to the Programme Area Lead for Forest and Resource Management. Academic credit may be granted for relevant learning achieved prior to enrolment on a course or programme. For international students, English language requirements for this programme will be in accordance with the criteria specified in the Waiariki Regulatory Framework (Academic Regulations).
