In recognising the unique needs of students, the aims of the Bachelor of Education are to provide equitable opportunities to access programs that will encourage prospective students to pursue study in the field of early childhood education, thus supporting the high demand for skilled professionals in the early childhood education sector. The Bachelor of Education ensures a complex understanding of and commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi/The Treaty of Waitangi and multiculturalism within educational contexts.

Graduate profile |
Graduates will have extensive knowledge of early childhood educational and pedagogical theory to better inform subject study knowledge to broaden their perspectives and provide specialist content in the area of early childhood education. The Bachelor of Education (ECE) is a professional qualification. It does not lead directly to provisional teacher registration in New Zealand but pathways to the NZTC Graduate Diploma in Teaching (ECE), Postgraduate and Masters' qualifications.

Education pathways |
Graduates of the Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood Education) are able to pathway into postgraduate study including the Postgraduate Diploma in Education (Early Childhood Education), the Master of Early Childhood Education or the Master of Education (Early Childhood Education). They can also pathway into the Graduate Diploma in Teaching (Early Childhood Education).

Entry Requirements |
Applicants must meet University Entrance requirements or equivalent. Applicants for whom English is a second language and Te Reo Maori is not their first language must provide evidence of an Academic IELTS score issued within the last two years of at least 6.0 overall, 6.0 in writing with no band score lower than 5.5 or equivalent. IELTS scores may be combined from two tests as long as on one test a minimum of 6.0 overall and 5.5in each component is achieved.
