Strategic Purpose Statement |
This qualification provides the binding and finishing sector of the print industry with individuals who have attained appropriate capabilities and competencies to work in the industry in the role of a bindery operator.
The qualification has been designed for individuals who are undertaking general production activities in one of the areas of folder operating, guillotine operating, print finishing, hand bookbinding or machine bookbinding. Knowledge and skills that are recognised by this qualification will support: competent job performance; the future introduction of new technologies within the sector; and further personal up-skilling in the printing workplace. Graduates will be able to work with limited supervision. |

Graduate profile |
Graduates of this qualification will be able to:
- Maintain personal safety around machinery in the workplace. - Carry out routine and preventive maintenance in the workplace, including gauges and instruments, according to the maintenance schedule. - Prepare job components and make ready the machinery required to undertake production for binding and/or finishing as per customer specifications. - Run the machinery required to undertake production for binding and/or finishing. - Assist with maintaining quality standards through communication with colleagues, and undertake post production tasks to meet customer and workplace requirements. - Implement a range of basic technical production skills to support print finishing and bookbinding production process requirements. - Comply with workplace practices and apply communication and teamwork skills to a bindery and/or finishing operation. |
