Strategic Purpose Statement |
The purpose of this qualification is to provide the fibreboard packaging industry with individuals who have attained appropriate capabilities and competencies to work in the industry in the role of an assistant operator.
It is designed for people who are employed as production support, and who are undertaking general and specific production activities in one of the areas of bag and sack converting, case corrugating, case converting and carton converting. These people work alongside machine operators and assistant operators helping to produce fibreboard packaging to meet job and customer requirements, and have the technical knowledge and skills to operate the machine in the absence of the operator if required. Knowledge and skills recognised by this qualification that will support: competent job performance, the future introduction of new technologies within the sector, and further personal up-skilling in the fibreboard packaging workplace. |

Graduate profile |
Graduates of this qualification will be able to:
- Prepare job components, and make ready the machinery to produce fibreboard packaging as per customer specifications. - Run the machinery to produce fibreboard packaging to meet job specifications and customer requirements. - Carry out routine and preventive maintenance, including gauges and instruments, according to the maintenance schedule. - Maintain quality standards through communication with colleagues, and undertake post production tasks to meet customer and workplace requirements, taking some responsibility for the work of others. - Apply communication and teamwork skills, and comply with workplace practices required of an assistant operator. |

The New Zealand Certificate in Fibreboard Packaging (Level 2) [Ref: 1818] or equivalent industry experience, is a prerequisite to this qualification.
