Strategic Purpose Statement
The purpose of this qualification is to provide the energy and chemical plant industry with competent employees who have attained the operational skills and knowledge required to work as entry-level boiler attendants.

This qualification is suitable for individuals who wish to enter into the industry or those already working as entry-level boiler attendants. The qualification provides a credential that will support career opportunities for graduates in a range of energy or chemical plant contexts.

Graduates would have established standards of competent performance to operate boilers within a specific energy or chemical plant context, under limited supervision.
Graduate profile
Graduates of this qualification will be able to:

- Maintain personal safety and work within boiler house safety systems and legislative requirements in an energy or chemical plant
- Comply with standard operating procedures in an energy and chemical plant
- Carry out basic boiler operations in an energy or chemical plant
Education pathways
This is an entry-level qualification within the energy and chemical plant industry, and can build on from the New Zealand Certificate in Energy and Chemical Operations (Plant and Machinery) (Level 3) [Ref: 2305], and lead to the New Zealand Certificate in Energy and Chemical Field Operations (Level 4) with strands in Process Plant Equipment, Steam Plant, Geothermal Operation, Petrochemical Operation, Petrochemical Station, and Petrochemical Transfer and Storage [Ref: 2307].
