Strategic Purpose Statement |
The purpose of this qualification is to provide people, employed in a service or support role within a forest, with basic skills and knowledge of the forestry industry and awareness of specific hazards associated with accessing forests and forest operations.
The forest industry will benefit from having people who can access the forest environment and carry out a variety of support or service roles, while ensuring their own safety. Service roles may include hose doctors, mechanics, tyre repairers, or forest security. Support roles may include trainers, assessors, supervisors, or researchers. |

Graduate profile |
Graduates of this qualification will be able to:
- Access forests safely with consideration for environmental requirements of forestry operations or harvesting operations. - Understand either forestry operations or harvesting operations to ensure hazards can be minimised. - Use awareness of factors affecting forestry workers to work safely in a forest. |

This qualification can lead to the following qualifications:
- New Zealand Certificate in Tree Felling and Clearing (Non-Production) (Level 3) [Ref: 2336], or - New Zealand Certificate in Forestry Operations (Level 3) with strands in Chemical Handling, Mensuration, Pruning, and Thin to Waste [Ref: 2334], or - New Zealand Certificate in Forest Harvesting Operations (Level 3) with strands in Basic Machine Operation, Tree Felling, Breaking Out - Cable, Breaking Out - Ground Based, Manual Processing, Log Scaling, Poleman, Production Thinning, and Quality Control [Ref: 2326]. |
