Strategic Purpose Statement
The New Zealand School of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine aims to create an educational environment which values scholarship, critical reflective thinking, life-long learning and professional development. The programme focuses on a high level of conceptualisation within the chosen disciplines of Chinese medicine, preparing graduates who can contribute to knowledge and practice development within their own chosen clinical specialty.
Graduate profile
The Postgraduate Certificate in Health Science (Chinese Medicine) will enable advanced scholarship and clinical practice in any of the modalities (Acupuncture, Moxibustion, Tuina, Qigong or Chinese herbal medicine) that encompass Chinese Medicine.
Graduates will In particular, have an advanced understanding of research methods appropriate to the evaluation of Chinese Medicine, as well as excellent skills in finding and appraising research literature and relating it to their practice.
Graduates of the Postgraduate Certificate in Health Science (Chinese Medicine) will be equipped with knowledge and skills to enable them to function at an advanced level within practice.
Education pathways
Graduates will be able to pathway to independent research and further postgraduate study.
Entry Requirements
Students must

- have a Bachelors degree in a Chinese Medicine-related subject from a New Zealand tertiary institution or an equivalent overseas university as deemed appropriate by the Admissions panel,

or

- have qualifications or experience deemed to be the equivalent of one of the above

In situations where the admission qualifications are not sufficient for study at the postgraduate level, enrolment in transitional studies may be required before the applicant is admitted to the programme.

International students for whom English is not their first language should provide one of the following:
Evidence no more than two years' old of an Academic IELTS score of 6.5 with no band score lower than 6, evidence of a comparable pass in IELTS or its equivalents gained within the last two years. Applicants whose qualifying undergraduate or postgraduate studies were conducted in English may be exempted from the IELTS requirements on submission of documented evidence that English was the language of instruction of that degree.
