Strategic Purpose Statement |
The New Zealand School of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine aims to create an educational environment which values scholarship, critical reflective thinking, life-long learning and professional development. The programme focuses on a high level of conceptualisation within the chosen disciplines of Chinese medicine, preparing graduates who can contribute to knowledge and practice development within their own chosen clinical specialty.

Graduate profile |
The Master of Health Science (Chinese Medicine) is a postgraduate qualification delivered using block face-to-face teaching, blended on-line and supported learning, designed to enable advanced scholarship and clinical practice in any of the modalities (Acupuncture, Moxibustion, Tuina, Qigong or Chinese herbal medicine) that encompass Chinese Medicine. It is anticipated that most students undertaking postgraduate study will combine practice with part-time study.
Graduates will demonstrate an ability to enhance their specialist clinical knowledge and skills, and to interpret traditional knowledge and the modern research-based evidence base pertaining to the field of traditional Chinese Medicine. They will demonstrate a capacity to explore concepts relating to the use of research and the creation of knowledge related to Chinese Medicine, developing, applying and testing advanced theoretical concepts in traditional Chinese Medicine, and understanding and using research models relating to the investigation and treatment of a range of diseases and conditions. Graduates will be able also to critically analyse and debate research issues in clinical evaluations of acupuncture and Chinese Medicine. |

Entry Requirements |
In order to be admitted to the Masters programme, an applicant shall normally have completed one of the following requirements:
* have a Bachelors degree in a Chinese Medicine-related subject from a New Zealand tertiary institution or an equivalent overseas university as deemed appropriate by the Admissions panel, or * have qualifications or experience deemed to be the equivalent of one of the above In situations where the admission qualifications are not sufficient for study at the postgraduate level, enrolment in transitional studies may be required before the applicant is admitted to the programme. International students for whom English is not their ffirst language should provide one of the following: Evidence no more than two years' old of an Academic IELTS score of 6.5 with no band score lower than 6, evidence of a comparable pass in IELTS or its equivalents gained within the last two years. Applicants whose qualifying undergraduate or postgraduate studies were conducted in English may be exempted from the IELTS requirements on submission of documented evidence that English was the language of instruction of that degree. or NZCEL (Academic) Level 5 |

Content |
Content will include compulsory courses in advanced research methodology, and contemporary perspectives in complementary and alternative medicine. Electives include courses in Chinese medicine for women's health, Chinese medicine for musculoskeletal health, Chinese herbal therapy and Chinese medicine for mental health. Master's students will also complete a 90-credit dissertation.
