Strategic Purpose Statement
This qualification is suitable for graduates of the New Zealand Certificate in Hot Dip Galvanizing (Level 3) [Ref: 2473], but is also a credential for those already working in the galvanizing industry. Graduates will generally work under limited supervision.

The purpose of this qualification is to provide the galvanizing sector with trade qualified people who can competently undertake and direct specialised areas within the galvanizing process.

Learners will benefit by having a qualification which recognises specialised skills and knowledge in galvanizing that supports improved job performance in specialist areas to enhance employment opportunities.

Organisations will benefit in efficiency by having staff with recognised skills and knowledge to competently specialise in areas of the galvanizing process. This will maintain or improve consistency of component production.

The strands recognise specialist knowledge and skills specific to the Jigging, Pre-treatment, Hot Dipping, Centrifuging, and Fettling aspects of the hot dip galvanizing process. Graduates will show ownership of work in their specialist strand and be capable of directing trade assistant galvanizers.
Graduate profile
Graduates of this qualification will be able to:

- Apply and demonstrate health, safety and environmental protection procedures in a galvanizing plant environment when undertaking and directing galvanizing plant operations.
- Communicate workplace information to and provide direction for team members to contribute to company work culture and efficiency.
- Provide leadership and guidance when organising their own and others' activities, and quality assure the hot dip galvanizing process.

Graduates of the Jigging strand will also be able to:
- Apply advanced knowledge of jigging techniques to the planning, performing and directing of specialised work within the hot dip galvanizing process.

Graduates of the Pre-treatment strand will also be able to:
- Apply advanced knowledge of preparation and pre-treatment techniques to the planning, performing and directing of specialised work within the hot dip galvanizing process.

Graduates of the Hot-dipping strand will also be able to:
- Apply advanced knowledge of hot dipping techniques to the planning, performing and directing of specialised work within the hot dip galvanizing process.

Graduates of the Centrifuging strand will also be able to:
- Apply advanced knowledge of centrifugal galvanizing techniques to the planning, performing and directing of specialised work within the hot dip galvanizing process.

Graduates of the Fettling strand will also be able to:
- Apply advanced knowledge of fettling techniques to the planning, performing and directing of specialised work within the hot dip galvanizing process.
Education pathways
This qualification is the second step in the New Zealand galvanizing qualification pathway.

It follows on from the New Zealand Certificate in Hot Dip Galvanizing (Level 3) with an optional strand in Centrifuging [Ref: 2473] and may lead to generic supervisory, or management qualifications.

Candidates may also extend this qualification by adding extra specialist strands.
Entry Requirements
It is recommended that candidates have a current workplace first aid certificate covering unit standards 26551, 26552 (or equivalent).

Qualification in the New Zealand Certificate in Hot Dip Galvanizing (Level 3) with an optional strand in Centrifuging [Ref: 2473] is a prerequisite to enrolment in this qualification.

Candidates wanting to enrol in the centrifuging strand need to have done the optional strand in Centrifuging at level 3.

Recognition of Current Competence (RCC) may be an option.
