Strategic Purpose Statement
The purpose of this qualification is to provide the game development industry in Aotearoa New Zealand, with individuals who have attained the knowledge, skills and attributes to enter employment as a game art asset creator. Graduates will have the specialised technical skills to produce high quality game art assets and will be equipped to work in the dynamic, team oriented games industry.
Graduate profile
In practice, graduates will be able to
Create original 2D concept art relevant to the game development industry.
Develop art design documents which recognise the limitations and specifications of a game engine.
Produce 2D and 3D art assets including user interfaces that are game engine ready.
Develop specialist skills in 2D or 3D or User Interface UI design.
Produce a personal portfolio of game art assets acceptable to industry.
Produce a development and production blog to illustrate game art asset skills and thinking processes.
Demonstrate ability to self-reflect and respond positively to critique.
Act professionally and work effectively as a team member in a production pipeline.
Education pathways
This qualification compliments others within the digital technology area in particular those relating to Game Design and Game Programming. It is intended that completion of the Diploma in Game Art can lead into the final year of the Bachelor of Applied Science or Bachelor of Information Technology both delivered through the Open Polytechnic of New Zealand as with other specific diploma programmes offered by Yoobee see Appendix 3 MOU.

Credits

The credit value relates to the size of the qualification. One credit equates to ten hours of learning. One year's full-time study at a provider is usually 120 credits, but if you are studying part-time or in the work place the credit value may vary.
