Strategic Purpose Statement
The purpose of this stranded qualification is to provide Aotearoa New Zealand with people who have attained a range of specialist professional and technical Information Systems (IS) skills and current ways of working including Agile and DevOps. It will prepare people for employment in an intermediate level IS role in a range of organisational contexts, operating both independently and as part of a team.

Businesses, organisations and communities will benefit from having IT professionals who are experienced and qualified in specific contexts within IS, and an ability to work in Agile development environments. This qualification provides an opportunity for people wanting to broaden their skills and knowledge in IS, which may include people already working in the IT sector, as well as others wishing to enter it.

Graduates of this qualification will have the information systems skills that will enable them to contribute to society, supporting digital proficiency and using their digital capability in a range of community and voluntary areas, and proceed to further study.

Graduates of the Business Analysis strand will have a focus on business analysis and managing software development processes.

Graduates of the User Experience strand will have a focus on human computer interaction (HCI).

Graduates of the IT Project Management strand will have a focus on the tools and techniques used in IT project management.

Graduates of the Information Systems Innovation strand will have a focus on innovation to address organisational needs and opportunities.

Graduates of the Data Analysis strand will have a focus on the tools and techniques used in the analysis of big data.
Graduate profile
Graduates of this qualification will be able to:

- Apply in-depth skills and knowledge in systems investigation, analysis, and review of business logic and processes to design, implement and validate enterprise solutions, to support information systems design.
- Analyse, select and implement business intelligence tools and methods using advanced techniques and modelling to explore and interpret data and provide strategic advantage to an organisation.
- Apply software engineering paradigms, modelling tools and business requirements analysis to design, develop, deploy, operate and maintain quality assured software system(s).
- Apply in-depth skills and knowledge in human computer interaction (HCI), user interface (UI) prototypes and design to ensure the usability, accessibility, responsiveness, effectiveness and acceptance of organisational information systems.
- Apply skills in advanced database modelling, database design, cleansing, testing, analytics, visualisation and reporting to create information systems that meet organisational requirements.
- Apply professional and ethical practices with integrity to meet the industry wide expectations of a responsible IT professional, in accordance with legal, regulatory and organisational requirements.
- Apply communication, information design, teamwork, personal, and interpersonal skills, to enhance working effectiveness, efficiency, and quality outcomes in a variety of situations in an organisational environment.
- Apply project management tools and techniques, critical thinking, enterprise skills and knowledge of project planning, management and control, to analyse and solve problems for an IT related project.

Graduates of the Business Analysis strand will also be able to:
- Investigate and design or modify information systems using a range of methodologies to meet end user and stakeholder requirements, including preparing and presenting a financial case, configuration documentation, and technical writing.
- Manage software development processes, business risks, and change, to deliver quality systems on time, within budget, and to meet stakeholder requirements.

Graduates of the User Experience strand will also be able to:
- Explore, evaluate and apply in-depth information architecture, HCI, UI and UX skills to design, prototype, develop and comprehensively test effective, responsive systems for an organisation.

Graduates of the IT Project Management strand will also be able to:
- Evaluate a variety of IT project management tools and techniques to inform organisational project planning and control requirements, including business risk and continuity management.
- Integrate and apply IT project management skills to plan, execute, monitor, deploy and deliver quality project outcomes that meet legal, ethical, professional and organisational requirements.

Graduates of the Information Systems Innovation strand will also be able to:
- Analyse, design and deliver innovative and creative emerging Information Systems solution(s) for process improvement in an organisation.

Graduates of the Data Analysis strand will also be able to:
- Explore, analyse, design and deliver a relevant data solution for an organisation, including data management, extraction, cleaning, transforming, and visualising.
