This qualification is designed for ākonga/learners wanting to develop broad technical skills and conceptual knowledge in digital media and design creative practice.

A range of industries will benefit from graduates who possess digital media and design creative capabilities.

Graduates will be able to operate independently within digital media and design creative and commercial environments.

Graduates of this qualification will be able to:

- Apply a broad range of technical skills and technologies to design, produce and present digital media creative work.
- Apply professional business practices and creative processes of discovery, conceptualisation, review, iteration, prototyping and presentation to independently manage projects and design digital solutions in response to a range of project briefs.
- Apply knowledge of the conceptual elements and principles of digital design practice to evaluate and quality assure digital media design solutions.

The qualification provides a pathway from:
- National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) (Level 3) [Ref: 1039]
- New Zealand Certificate in Digital Media and Design (Level 4) [Ref: 2629]
- New Zealand Certificate in Arts and Design (Level 4) [Ref: 2627]
- New Zealand Certificate in Fashion (Level 4) [Ref: 2630]
- New Zealand Certificate in Creativity (Level 4) [Ref: 2869]

This qualification leads to the New Zealand Diploma in Digital Media and Design (Level 6) [Ref: 2637]. Graduates of this qualification may undertake further higher-level study in the fields of design, media, and/or art.
