Strategic Purpose Statement
This qualification is intended for education practitioners aspiring to or engaged in a career specialising in adult literacy and numeracy education.

Graduates of this qualification will have expertise in adult literacy and numeracy education teaching design, facilitation, assessment and evaluation.
Graduate profile
Graduates of this qualification will be able to:

- Design learning that is pedagogically and culturally appropriate to meet literacy and numeracy needs of learners.
- Facilitate quality learner-centred teaching that respects the mana and diverse cultural backgrounds of adult learners, and the wider educational and societal context.
- Plan and use a range of adult literacy and numeracy education facilitation and learning strategies, including technology-enhanced teaching and learning.
- Produce and use adult literacy and numeracy education diagnostic, formative and summative assessment tools to identify specific learner needs and strengths.
- Evaluate and reflect on own literacy and numeracy teaching practice and explore options to improve it.
Education pathways
This qualification may lead to Level 5 and above qualifications in adult and tertiary teaching. This may include the New Zealand Certificate in Adult and Tertiary Teaching (Level 5) [Ref: 2993], the New Zealand Diploma in Adult and Tertiary Teaching (Level 6) [Ref: 2756], the New Zealand Diploma in Adult Literacy and Numeracy Education (Level 6) [Ref: 2747], the New Zealand Certificate in Learning Design (Level 6) [Ref: 2749], or the New Zealand Certificate in Education Technology (Level 6) [Ref: 2748].
Entry Requirements
It is highly recommended that the candidate has a relevant adult and tertiary teaching qualification at Level 4 or above or has equivalent knowledge and skills prior to entering into this qualification.
