He Maunga Kura Toi aims to:

KAITIAKITANGA
* To produce skilled artists within a kaupapa Toi context(s) who are able to significantly contribute to Toi Māori, te ao Māori, communities, and industries;
* Equip ākonga with excellent understanding and appreciation regarding tikanga and āhuatanga Māori practices for chosen Kaupapa Toi;
* Equip ākonga with excellent understanding, appreciation and awareness of Kaupapa Wānanga | Principle based practice

KOHA
* To produce artists who hold excellent knowledge, appreciation and understanding of a kaupapa Toi origin(s) as a basis for creative and innovative practice;
* Develop ākonga with knowledge and application of rangahau and analytical skills for chosen Kaupapa Toi;
* Sustain a creative and learning practice that promotes freedom, expansion, liberation, critical thinking development and increased capacity within a kaupapa toi;

Graduate profile
Maunga Kura Toi - Bachelor of Maori Art aims to produce graduates who have an advanced portfolio of skills, knowledge and aptitudes. This includes conceptual and theoretical competencies as well as technical and procedural abilities appropriate to Toi Māori. Graduates of this programme will specialise in whakairo, raranga and rauangi.
Education pathways
Graduates will have the skills, knowledge and attributes required for a chosen kaupapa toi, well versed in Māori approaches to art practice and a qualification that can pathway into postgraduate qualifications in indigenous arts/knowledge.
Entry Requirements
For the safety of learner's, all applicants, through application and the selection process must demonstrate that they are:
* Ready to successfully pursue and complete a bachelors' degree within a Te Wānanga o Aotearoa environment.
* Committed to Te Kaupapa o TWoA.
* Prepared to engage in the learning required to encourage the continued revitalization of āhuatanga, tikanga and toi Māori within education environments.
* Committed to enhancing the participation and achievement of Māori and non-Māori learners in education.
* Advocates of positive communication skills.

Prospective ākonga must be eligible for admission under one of the following categories:
* University Entrance and NCEA Level 2 Credits;
* Discretionary Admission;
* Special Admission; or
* Admission by credit recognition.
Applicants must be at least 16 years of age before the cutoff date for enrolments in the first year of study or where an applicant under the age of 18 has achieved the NCEA requirements approval may be given by the Pou Marau (Manager of Curriculum Studies).
University Entrance and NCEA Level 2 Credits
For applicants wishing to enrol in He Maunga Kura Toi who are under 20 years of age, the required NCEA credits for university entrance includes a minimum of 80 credits at level 2 or higher on the National Qualifications framework.
Prospective ākonga 20 years or over at the cutoff date for enrolments in to the programme who are unable to prove previous successful completion of tertiary level study at Level 4 or above will need to achieve the literacy and numeracy entry tests and demonstrate a preparedness for academic study at degree level.
Prospective ākonga 20 years or over at the cut off date for enrolments in to the programme who have successfully completed tertiary level study at level 4 or above will be considered for admission. If there is no evidence of the competencies required in literacy and numeracy, prospective ākonga may be required to achieve the literacy and numeracy entry tests.
