Strategic Purpose Statement
The aim of the Bachelor of Applied Management programme of study is to produce graduates with the personal and professional skills necessary to be successful in demanding and evolving business environments, whether locally, nationally or internationally.
Graduate profile
At the completion of the programme the students will: * Demonstrate knowledge and skills relevant to the various areas of applied management, including key ideas, principles and concepts associated with the theory and application of the papers. * Be confident, capable and professional practitioners and learners. * Gather and assess information from a variety of sources, undertake analysis of this data, and use this to solve problems. * Be able to think critically, analyse relevant issues, and discuss these within the context of management in a logical and competent manner. * Analyse, apply, and communicate principles and concepts within the applicable management sector. * Have developed professional knowledge and applied skills appropriate for the needs of clients within the applicable management sector. * Employ reflective practices to solve problems, both independently and as part of a team and collect, critically analyse and communicate information effectively. In addition to the skills listed for the Bachelor of Applied Management, graduates from the following majors will: Bachelor of Applied Management - Applied Management Major * Critically analyse strategic issues facing organisations, develop and implement policies and procedures in the areas of operations, management, and financial management. Bachelor of Applied Management - Project Management Major * Critically analyse strategic issues facing organisations and develop and implement appropriate policies, develop and implement procedures and processes to enable the successful implementation of specific projects which are outside the 'business as usual' scope of operations. Bachelor of Applied Management - People and Culture Major * Strategically analyse information relevant to human resource management areas including recruiting, organisational departmental planning, performance management, and employment compliance. Bachelor of Applied Management - Occupational Health and Safety Management Major * Critically analyse strategic health and safety issues facing organisations, develop and implement policies and procedures in the area of occupational health and safety management, and undertake an influential leadership role for occupational health and safety management. Bachelor of Applied Management - Applied Marketing Major * Critically analyse marketing strategies and apply marketing concepts to justify solutions to complex scenarios. These include formulating marketing plans, conceptualising and evaluating promotion campaigns and making reasoned trade-offs between objectives and budgets and to innovate and manage change via a strong grounding in the realities of social, economic, and technological change processes. Bachelor of Applied Management - Event Management Major * Critically analyse strategic issues relevant to event management environments and outcomes. Bachelor of Applied Management - Agribusiness Management Major * Critically analyse strategic issues facing agricultural industries, develop and implement policies and procedures in the areas of operations, management, and financial management.
Education pathways
Graduates may be eligible to enrol in postgraduate study, for example the SIT Postgraduate Diploma in Business Enterprise, or the SIT Masters of Applied Management or Postgraduate Diploma or Certificate in Applied Management.
Entry Requirements
Admission: To be eligible for admission to this programme, all applicants must meet three admission requirements: * Requirements for either General, Special, or Discretionary admission * Any additional Programme specific requirements * English language requirements General Admission: To be admitted to this programme all applicants must be at least 16 years of age on the date the programme starts, and meet one of the following requirements: * University Entrance: NCEA Level 3 Three subjects at level 3, made up of: 14 credits in each of three approved subjects Literacy - 10 credits at Level 2 or above, made up of: 5 credits in reading 5 credits in writing Numeracy - 10 credits at Level 1 or above, made up of: achievement standards - specified achievement standards available through a range of subjects, or unit standards - package of three numeracy unit standards (26623, 26626, 26627- all three required). Or Satisfied the criteria for entrance to a New Zealand University with an equivalent to the above from another secondary qualification. Or Successful completion of an approved qualification at Level 4 or above with a relevant pathway. Special Admission: Applicants who have attained the age of 20 years on or before the first day of the intake in which study for the programme is to commence and who do not meet the general admission requirements stated above but believe that they have the level of preparedness for study at this level may apply for special admission. In assessing whether to grant special admission the primary focus will be on the applicant's ability to demonstrate a likelihood to succeed in the programme. All decisions will be at the discretion of the Relevant Academic Authority. Discretionary Admission: Applicants who do not meet the general admission requirements stated above and who believe that they have the level of preparedness for study at this level may apply for discretionary admission. In assessing whether to grant discretionary admission the primary focus will be on the applicant's ability to demonstrate a likelihood to succeed in the programme. All decisions will be at the discretion of the Relevant Academic Authority. Programme Specific Requirements: There are no additional Programme Specific requirements English Language Requirements: All applicants (international and domestic) need to provide evidence that they have the necessary English language proficiency required for the programme. International applicants must provide evidence that they have the necessary English language proficiency required for the Programme as outlined in the table for internationally recognised English proficiency outcomes for international students from one test taken in the preceding two years, or an equivalent described in NZQA Rules and on Delivery Site English Language Requirements for International Ākonga webpage. Domestic applicants must provide evidence that they have the necessary language literacy proficiency required for the Programme as demonstrated by the equivalence of:   10 NCEA literacy credits at Level 2 or above, made up of:  5 credits in reading  5 credits in writing  Applicants who are unable to provide evidence of the above may be required to demonstrate capability using: * an approved proficiency test or an equivalent described in NZQA Rules * successful completion of Level 4 study in English.

The programme offers a blend of theoretical and practical learning, with an emphasis on applied knowledge and skill. High importance is placed on the development of the soft skills for management (such as communication, business writing, presentation, interpersonal and problem-solving skills) in addition to the development of specific business knowledge and skills. Students are able to specialise in one of 7 majors: Project Management, Event Management, People and Culture, Applied Marketing, Applied Management, Occupational Health and Safety Management, or Agribusiness Management.
