Strategic Purpose Statement
The aim of the Bachelor of Applied Management programme of study is to produce graduates with the personal and professional skills necessary to be successful in demanding and evolving business environments, whether locally, nationally or internationally
Graduate profile
At the completion of the programme the students will demonstrate knowledge and skills relevant to the various areas of applied management, including key ideas, principles and concepts associated with the theory and application of the papers, be professional practitioners and learners; gather and assess information from a variety of sources, undertake analysis of this data, and use this to solve problems, think critically, analyse relevant issues, and discuss these within the context of management in a logical and competent manner, apply and communicate principles and concepts within the applicable management sector have professional knowledge and applied skills appropriate for the needs of clients within the applicable management sector collect, critically review and communicate information effectively in both written and oral form to both lay and expert audiences, solve problems both independently and as part of a team. Event Management major. In addition to the skills listed for the Bachelor of Applied Management, graduates from the Bachelor of Applied Management with a major in Event Management will process management information in a range of event environments. They will apply conceptual and technical skills to cost determination and control in client and contract negotiations. Project Management major. In addition to the skills listed for the Bachelor of Applied Management, graduates from the Bachelor of Applied Management with a major in Project Management will analyse strategic issues facing organisations and develop and implement appropriate polices, develop and implement procedures and processes to enable the successful implementation of specific projects which are outside the business as usual scope of operations. Human Resource Management major. In addition to the skills listed for the Bachelor of Applied Management, graduates from the Bachelor of Applied Management with a major in Human Resource Management will develop and apply human resource policies and procedures in areas such as recruiting, organisational departmental planning, performance management, and employment compliance. Applied Marketing major. In addition to the skills listed for the Bachelor of Applied Management, graduates from the Bachelor of Applied Management with an Applied Marketing major will apply marketing concepts to complex real-world scenarios such as formulating marketing plans, conceptualising and evaluating promotion campaigns and making reasoned trade-offs between objectives and budgets and to innovate and manage change via a strong grounding in the realities of social, economic, and technological change processes, the underlying dynamics of consumer and industrial buyer behaviour, contemporary marketing research practice, and organisational behavioural principles. Applied Management major. In addition to the skills listed for the Bachelor of Applied Management, graduates from the Bachelor of Applied Management with an Applied Management major will analyse strategic issues facing organisations and develop and implement appropriate polices, develop and implement policy in the areas of operations and general management, and understand costing and financial management processes.

Graduates may be eligible to enrol in postgraduate study, for example the SIT Postgraduate Diploma in Business Enterprise, or the SIT Masters of Applied Management or Postgraduate Diploma or Certificate in Applied Management.

University Entrance - NCEA Level 3
Three subjects - at Level 3, made up of:
- 14 credits each, in three NZQA University Entrance approved subjects, and
Literacy - 10 credits at Level 2 or above, made up of:
- 5 credits in reading
- 5 credits in writing, and
Numeracy - 10 credits at Level 1 or above, made up of
- specified achievement standards through a range of subjects, or
- package of three numeracy unit standards (26623, 26626, 26627 - all three required)
Special Admission
Application by Mature Entry
(20 years of age and above)
Be at least 20 years of age when the programme begins and provide evidence of aptitude or appropriate work or other experience; or
Completion of an external or overseas qualification, which is considered to be the equivalent of any of the above qualifications, as approved by the Head of Faculty.

Applicants whose first language is not English, or who come from a country where the language of instruction in schools is not English, are required to provide evidence of having achieved one of the following
NCEA Level 3 with University Entrance; or
International Baccalaureate Diploma, Cambridge A level qualification for which the teaching and assessment was conducted in English; or
Cambridge Certificate of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CELTA; or
Trinity College of London Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CertTesol); or
Completion of all primary education (being the equivalent of New Zealand primary school years 1 to 8) and at least three years of secondary education (being the equivalent of three years from New Zealand secondary school years 9 to 13) at schools in either New Zealand, Australia, Canada, the Republic of Ireland, South Africa, the United Kingdom and the United States, one of the countries listed in Rule 18.5 where the student was taught using English as the language of instruction; or
Successful completion of at least five years of secondary education (being the equivalent of New Zealand secondary school years 9 to 13) at schools in either New Zealand, Australia, Canada, the Republic of Ireland, South Africa, the United Kingdom and the United States where the student was taught using English as the language of instruction; or
Successful completion of a Bachelor 's Degree, Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma, Bachelor Honours degree, Postgraduate Certificate, Postgraduate Diploma, Masters' Degree or Doctoral Degree, the language of instruction of which must be in English and which must be from a tertiary education provider from New Zealand, Australia, Canada, the Republic of Ireland, South Africa, the United Kingdom or the United States; or
Successful completion of one of the following internationally recognised proficiency tests listed below to the level required of the programme of study and with all scores achieved in a single test during the preceding 2 years:
Certificate or Diploma at Level 6 / Diploma or Degree at Level 7 / Graduate Certificate or Diploma at Level 7
IELTS test - Academic score of 6 with no band score lower than 5.5
TOEFL Paper based test (pBT) - Score of 550 (with an essay score 5 TWE)
TOEFL Internet based test (iBT) - Score of 60 (with a writing score of 18)
Cambridge English Examination - B2 First or B2 First for schools or C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency with a score of 169. No less than 162 in each skill.
OET - Minimum of Grade C or 200 in all sub-tests
NZCEL - a) Expiring Level b) Current:
a) Level 4 (Academic) b) Level 4 (Academic)
Pearson Test of English (Academic) - PTE (Academic) score of 50 with no band score lower than 42
Language Cert - C1 Expert IESOL (LRWS) with PASS and no less than Pass in each skill
Trinity ISE - ISE II with no less than distinction in any band

Right of entry into programmes of study is restricted by SIT and apparent eligibility may not lead to automatic acceptance. Applicants must demonstrate attributes which in the assessment of SIT should lead to success.
Where SIT is satisfied that it is necessary to do so because of insufficiency of staff, accommodation, or equipment it may determine the maximum number of students who may be enrolled in a particular course of study. Where the number of applications for enrolment exceeds the number of places in any case where such a limitation applies the criteria for selection shall be academic merit and suitability for admission to that course of study. Eligible students not admitted to their chosen course of study will be placed on a waiting list and or may be referred to another programme. Applications should be received by SIT no later than the applications due date. Late applications may be considered subject to availability of places.
The Head of Faculty will determine the maximum number of students permitted to enrol in the degree programme.
All enrolments in the Bachelor of Applied Management (majors in Project Management, Event Management, Human Resource Management, Applied Marketing, Applied Management, Occupational Health and Safety Management, Agribusiness Management) are approved at the discretion of the Programme Manager in consultation with the Head of Faculty and teaching staff, as required.
