Strategic Purpose Statement
The purpose of this qualification is to provide the commercial road transport industry with people who have the competencies to manage the dispatching and logistics operations for organisations involved in transporting freight by road.

This qualification is targeted at people who have some industry or other relevant experience and are ready to advance into a more senior position within the road transport industry. Learners will benefit by having a qualification that enables improved job performance and enhanced employment opportunities in the field of commercial road transport.

This qualification does not permit the holder to drive a motor vehicle on New Zealand roads without a current relevant driver licence issued by the New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA).
Graduate profile
Graduates of this qualification will be able to:

- Apply advanced understanding to comply with the regulatory environment, including health and safety obligations, when managing commercial road transport operations
- Apply knowledge of mechanical systems and principles, such as vehicle technology, tyres and combinations to be able to safely manage fleet operations and maintenance requirements
- Co-ordinate the movement of freight by road by undertaking thorough route planning, load planning, cost assessment and risk assessments
- Supervise staff, including conflict resolution, incident management and change management

-New Zealand Certificate in Commercial Road Transport (Heavy Haulage Class 1 Pilot) (Level 4) [Ref: 3090]
-New Zealand Certificate in Commercial Road Transport (Specialist Driver) (Level 4) with strands in Transportation of Logs, Heavy Haulage Transportation, Livestock Transportation, Dangerous Goods Transportation, Waste Transportation, General Cartage, and Groundspreading [Ref: 3091]
-New Zealand Certificate in Commercial Road Transport (Senior Driver) (Level 5) [Ref: 3093].

It may lead on to supply chain management qualifications, such as the:
-New Zealand Certificate in Supply Chain Management (Level 5) [Ref: 2811]
-New Zealand Diploma in Supply Chain Management (Level 6) [Ref: 2812].

Graduates could also complete a business management qualification (or degree).
